Cate Newman Obituary, Death – The Hills District Netball Association would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest sympathies to Cate Newman’s family and friends on the occasion of her loss. Cate served as our President. She was the admired leader of our group. Cate Newman passed away unexpectedly earlier this week, and the circumstances surrounding her death are unknown. Because she devoted so much of her time and energy to the game of netball, both as a volunteer at HDNA and as an administrator with Netball Australia, everyone is going to miss Cate terribly.

Cate was an integral part of the sport of netball in both of these capacities. Cate worked at HDNA for close to ten years in a number of positions, eventually ascending to the position of President after having previously served in a variety of other capacities, including as a member of our Umpires Committee, Office Administrator, and Treasurer. Her career at HDNA spanned nearly the entirety of the organization’s history. Cate worked with HDNA for close to 10 years in a variety of capacities during the course of her employment there.

Cate was fondly recalled by Lisa Robertson, who is the Vice President of HDNA. Robertson paid homage to Cate by characterizing her as someone who thrived in sharing the excitement of netball with others. Cate will be greatly missed. “Netball was not only Cate’s life; it was also her passion, and she was responsible for instilling that passion in a significant number of other people.” [Cate] will be deeply missed by everybody who knew and loved her. We were all taken aback by the suddenness of her death, and in light of that, we would want to make the most of this opportunity to reflect on all of the contributions that she made to the advancement of the area in which she resided.
